Mahone Islands Sojourn

from 595.00

Stretching from the Aspotogan Penninsula to Blue Rocks is the paddlers' paradise of Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia; an area of more the three hundred islands and rock outcroppings including Great Tancook, Oak Island and a multitude of islands protected by the Mahone Islands Conservation Association (MICA) for their ecological significance and beauty.

On this trip you will travel by kayak to spectacular islands in the
Mahone Archipelago for a first-hand experience of the natural history and
biodiversity of this stunning coastline that has been shaped by the
sea. The drumlin islands of Mahone Bay provide habitat for a diversity
of bird life including osprey, eagles, guillemots, cormorants,
puffins, herons, razor bills, leach's storm petrels, and terns. Seals, porpoises  and other marine life may also be spotted on our travels. Paddle through a coastline that has been shaped by a fascinating history of privateers & rum-runners, shipbuilding and vibrant Nova Scotian coastal culture. Breathtaking open ocean views at Tancook Island, originally named Uktankook by the Mi'kmaw, meaning 'the place facing the open sea', are a highlight that can be reached on our 4 or 5 day trips for the more adventurous paddler. Protected routes make this trip suitable for all levels of paddlers.
