Youth Programs
Youth Kayak 5 Day Adventure
HIGHLIGHTS
We are pleased to offer sea kayak expeditions for youth ages 14-18, focused on outdoor skills, camp craft, leadership, decision-making and group facilitation.
Learn to handle wind, waves and weather with confidence as you choose your own adventure with your kayak pod. You will paddle single & tandem kayaks along the beautiful Mi’kma’ki islands and coastline. This is a wonderful and intimate way to learn from and with the sea: to better understand ourselves and the natural world through close contact with the ocean & its inhabitants!
The youth kayak crew will work together to do everything that needs to be done to live well on the coast. You will learn shelter & fire building, how to safely operate a kayak in the ocean, how to navigate by chart and compass, how to prepare delicious meals in the wilderness, how to make decisions about where to go and how to get there, and how to be responsible for the safety of your group and equipment.
We paddle during the day and beach the kayaks at night to make camp and sleep on land. All of our trips are participant-led; meaning the participants help to decide where to go, how to get there, and what the day's activities might hold. Each trip is different, each crew is different - it's your adventure - you decide how you want to live it.
Our instructors are experienced professionals who have worked extensively leading and instructing ocean based youth leadership expeditions. For over 5 years, Cape Lahave Adventures has been the chosen provider to deliver paddling programs for Outward Bound Canada, Canadian Conservation Corps, Asitu’lisk, and the Nova Scotia Sea School among others. This trip will have have educational, therapeutic, and environmental leadership elements woven into the experience, but most of all it will be fun! We invite you to come join us for this incredible experiential opportunity along the beautiful the shores and islands of Mi’kma’ki
Partial and full bursaries are available for eligible participants. Please contact us for more details.
