Santiago grew up by the Pacific Ocean in Mexico and as long as he can remember he has been fascinated by water and nature. Soon after moving to Canada in 2011 he founded Kayak Latins du Nord, a vehicle to share his passion for sea kayaking promoting water safety through Paddle Canada courses and organizing multi-day guided trips both in Canada and internationally. As one of the most qualified sea kayak professionals in Canada he has trained instructors and certified paddlers in Nunavik, Nunavut, B.C., Nova Scotia, Quebec, Ontario and Newfoundland, as well as training paddlers in symposia in Chile, the United States and Mexico.
Santiago is fluent in Spanish, English and French. During the off season, he works in Antarctica guiding travellers trough some of the most remote places on the planet. He graduated from the National Institute College of Image and Sound program as Director of Photograpy and he is interested in learning about the indigenous people of the world, surfing, history, geography, photography, languages, music, literature, arts, SUP and cross-country skiing.
In Santiago's approach to coaching and guiding we find some of his daily mantras: never stop learning, keep pushing your limits, expand your reality and have fun along the way.
